Lots of website do reply on organic traffic especially local businesses where using advertising platforms such as adwords simple isn’t cost effective.. Over the last 2 years (post Panda/Penguin) lots of website owners have changed their stance and now rightly focus on good content, user interaction and social media to reach their client base, a formula that works extremely well for these types of businesses.
Many websites dropped after Googles famous Panda and Penguin updates, simply because they didn’t heed Google’s warnings or the rogue SEO companies they employed told them that their links where ‘Panda/Penguin Safe’ ( I still chuckle when I come across that term)
Rules are rules and most legitimate web marketing companies and web site owners welcomed them, but then there were the complainers, the people who claimed Google had lost them £1000’s in revenue by dropping their site or the rogue SEO companies claiming to have been put out of business, at the end of the day a Google organic listing is free its not a right… and if you don’t meet their guidelines then its your own fault, especially if warning have been issued.
Next month Google releases another new algorithm that will target non-responsive websites, again webmasters have been warned yet millions of websites haven’t bothered to upgrade and will be penalised.
I’m ready again for the uproar, the people who haven’t prepared who will be the people shouting loudest when their non-compliant, non- responsive website is dropped from mobiles searches.
Again this is to allow Google to provide the best user experience for their customers (people who use Google as they search engine) nobody searching on a mobile device wants to be linked to a non-mobile friendly website with tiny text, links and un-accessible content.
Responsive web design has been around for a couple of years, initially it was simply a concept to give a better user experience and a option used by some web design companies, Google only adopted it into what they say is a user friendly website around 6 months ago… yes we knew this was coming.
We have been making all of our website responsive for around 18 months so our recent clients have nothing to worry about, yet there are lot of web design agencies still producing non-responsive websites, these are usually the ‘telesales’ type web design agencies who are only interested in a quick turnaround and produce cheap, nasty template websites or the printers/graphic design companies who offer web design as an additional service.
If you are in doubt as to whether your website is mobile friendly head over to Google’s FREE checking tool.. Link at the end on this article.. Don’t simply take you web designers word as I have personally spoke to 2 new clients this week who though that their sites were responsive because their designer told them
